How to get to the markets?

By train or bus – i.e. you are coming from far away?

Arriving by train at the main station in Olomouc, you can take a 2 km walk to the Christmas markets or use public transport, see below.
If you're traveling by bus, you will either start your journey at the main bus station and continue e.g. with tram line No. x4/1 to Hrdinů Square or if the bus line allows it, you will get off at the stop called Tržnice (the old bus station). 
 

Public Transport
The closest stop to the markets is Tržnice (tram no. x1/4, 5, 3, 7) or “náměstí Hrdinů“ (lines no. 16, 18, x4/1, 5, 7). From here you can walk to the square.

By car

For parking, it is best to use the large parking lots on Legionářská Street or Aksamitova Street. You can also use the underground parking garage beneath the municipal building on Hynaisova Street or the parking house on Koželužská Street. Alternatively, parking is also available at the Šantovka Shopping Center in the city center.

• Upper Square (Horní náměstí) – wooden-clad containers, women's and men's toilets

• Pavelčákova Street – public toilet at the beginning of the street towards Upper Square on the left

• Restaurants on Upper and Lower Squares (Horní and Dolní náměstí)

• TOI-TOI chemical toilet at Tržnice (Market Hall) and other portable chemical toilets

 

Souvenir from the markets

At stands offering hot drinks, you can purchase an enamel mug in blue or red featuring the historic town hall and the Holy Trinity Column, or porcelain mugs with the Christmas Olomouc logo or the above landmarks in red, green, or white.

Charitable Christmas

Three stands are dedicated to charity, featuring local organizations from Olomouc and the surrounding area, where visitors can donate to support their operations or projects. The Good Place for Life booth rotates organizations, local businesses, restaurants, or sports clubs, offering punch and refreshments to guests, with proceeds going to a different nonprofit organization each day.

 

The Lions Club booth operates similarly, and a third charity stand on Lower Square features local charities. On December 10, a charity punch sale with the Mayor of Olomouc will benefit the Korunka Pomáhá Foundation.

Christmas Markets route

Upper Square (Horní náměstí) → Lower Square (Dolní náměstí) → Tržnice (Market Hall) → 750 m

The main feature of Upper Square is the UNESCO-listed Holy Trinity Column, though during the holidays, a 15-meter Christmas tree, named each year by local schoolchildren, takes center stage.

 

A magical view of Upper Square awaits you from the wooden viewing platform, built from two shipping containers, as well as from the new 10-meter wooden Olomouc tower with a walkway. This festive sight is worth seeing!

While enjoying a warm punch or a snack, children can ride the historic carousel or visit the bell tower. Accompanying cultural events also take place on Upper Square.

 

Olomouc’s famous punch is also part of the tradition! This year, a punch trail lets you pick up a collectible card at selected stalls.

 

The wooden village on Upper Square consists of 110 stalls offering Christmas decorations and gifts, crafts, Advent candles, and wreaths. Enjoy regional and traditional Christmas delicacies.

 

Moving to Lower Square, don’t miss Baby Jesus' Workshop and Post Office—a glass cottage where children’s imaginations come alive. Children write letters to Baby Jesus, make candles, and float walnut shell boats.

 

Lower Square hosts a mini-square with twenty wooden stalls mainly featuring handmade crafts. There are also stalls offering the famous punch and warm treats. Don’t miss the nativity scene carved by Vincker, featuring life-sized wooden figures, with smaller figurines available at Vincker’s stall near the nativity scene.

 

Our walk ends at Tržnice, where you can enjoy a symbolic view of Christmas Olomouc from a 33-meter Ferris wheel. There is also an ice rink under light canopies, with skate rentals available. The rink is free, supported by the city of Olomouc.

 

After a walk, you can relax with a drink or something tasty from nearby stalls.

Advent Tours of the Town Hall and Komenium Ballroom

From November 29 to December 22, while visiting the Olomouc Christmas Markets, you can take part in Advent tours of the town hall and the Komenium ballroom.

​

The Advent tours of the town hall take place from Friday to Sunday. With a guide, you will explore the building of the Olomouc town hall, including exhibitions on the city's history and the astronomical clock. You will also visit the Chapel of St. Jerome, and conclude the tour by climbing the 75-meter-high town hall tower, offering a breathtaking view of Christmas-lit Olomouc.

The tour price is 150 CZK, and children under 12 can join for free. Each purchased ticket also includes a voucher for a complimentary mulled wine.

The tour of the Komenium ballroom takes place every Advent Sunday at 2 PM. The price is 80 CZK, and children under 12 are free again. The Komenium ballroom is a hidden gem of Olomouc and well worth a visit.

Nativity Scene Exhibition

The traditional Nativity scene exhibition is held in most of Olomouc's churches during the Christmas holidays. You can see various types of displays, from those featuring technical innovations and moving figurines to life-sized scenes.
