How to get to the markets?

By train or bus – i.e. you are coming from far away?

If you arrive by train at the main station in Olomouc, you can then take an approximately 2 km long walk to the Christmas markets or change to public transport (see below). If you are traveling by bus, you will start your journey either at the main bus station and continue, for example, by tram line no. 4, which will take you to the náměstí Hrdinů square, or if the bus line allows, you can get off directly at the Tržnice stop (old bus station).

Public Transport

For travel by public transport, the closest stops are Tržnice (trams no. 1, 5, 3, 7) or náměstí Hrdinů (lines no. 16, 18, 4, 5, 7), and from there you can continue on foot to the square.

By car

For parking, it is best to use the large parking lots on Legionářská Street or Aksamitova Street. You can also use the underground parking garage beneath the municipal building on Hynaisova Street or the parking house on Koželužská Street. Alternatively, parking is also available at the Šantovka Shopping Center in the city center. Large outdoor parking lots P5 and P6 are also available. At Šantovka, you can park for free for the first two hours on weekdays, and on weekends and public holidays, the first four hours are free.

• Upper Square (Horní náměstí) – wooden-clad containers, women's and men's toilets

• Pavelčákova Street – public toilet at the beginning of the street towards Upper Square on the left

• Restaurants on Upper and Lower Squares (Horní and Dolní náměstí)

• TOI-TOI chemical toilet at Tržnice (Market Hall) and other portable chemical toilets

Souvenir from the markets

At the stalls with hot drinks, you can buy either a tin mug in blue or red with the motif of the historic town hall and the Holy Trinity Column, or porcelain mugs with the logo of "Vánoční Olomouc" (Christmas Olomouc) or the aforementioned monuments in red, green, or white.

Charitable Christmas

We have set aside three stalls where charitable organizations from Olomouc and the surrounding area will take turns during Advent, to which people can contribute for their operation or projects.

The stall of the "Dobré místo pro život" (A Good Place for Life) association operates on the principle of rotating organizations and local companies, restaurants, or sports clubs, who together will offer guests punches and refreshments. The proceeds from the sale always go to the charitable purposes of the non-profit organization – these are different every day.

The stall of the Lions Club operates in the same way. The third is a charity stall on the Lower Square (Dolní náměstí), where charitable organizations or associations from Olomouc will gradually introduce themselves.

Christmas Markets route

Upper Square (Horní náměstí) → Lower Square (Dolní náměstí) → Tržnice (Market Hall) → 750 m

The dominant feature of the Upper Square is the Holy Trinity Column, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, but during the Christmas holidays, it is primarily the approximately 15-meter-high Christmas tree, whose name is chosen annually by the children of Olomouc schools.

You will have a truly magical view of the entire Upper Square from the wooden lookout, which is built from two shipping containers. And the view of the Christmas-lit square is really worth it!

And while you are enjoying a hot punch or something to eat, your little ones can ride on the historic children's carousel or visit the bell tower. A supporting cultural program also takes place on the Upper Square.

A new feature of the Olomouc Christmas markets is also another lookout – the Little Tower by the stage (Věžička u podia).

And let's get back to the nationally famous Olomouc punches! This year, we have also prepared a punch trail for you, so don't forget to pick up a collector's card at selected stalls.

On the Upper Square, you will find our wooden village, which consists of 110 stalls. You can buy Christmas decorations and gifts, handicraft products, Advent candles, and wreaths there.

When crossing to the Lower Square, you must not miss Santa's workshop with a post office (Ježíškova dílnička s poštou) – the glass house is the very place where children's imagination comes to life. Here, children write letters to Santa, make candles, or float boats made of walnut shells.

The Lower Square hosts an improvised little square, twenty wooden stalls, primarily with handmade domestic products. But don't worry, we haven't left you to freeze here either, and there are also stalls with the famous punch.

During a walk across the square, you must not miss the shelter with a nativity scene by the carver Vincker, which consists of life-sized carved wooden statues. Smaller statues for purchase can be found at Mr. Vincker's stall right next to the nativity scene.

​

Our walk ends at the Marketplace (Tržnice), where you can symbolically enjoy the beauty of Christmas Olomouc from a 33-meter-high Advent Ferris wheel. There is also an ice rink with a canopy of lights. For those who do not have skates, a rental shop is available. Admission to the ice rink is free with the support of the city of Olomouc.

After the walk, you will surely be happy to relax with a drop of something good to eat or drink in the Christmas tent.

The traditional exhibition of nativity scenes takes place in most of Olomouc's churches between the Christmas holidays. You will have the opportunity to see several different types – from those with technical gadgets and moving figures to life-sized ones.
